Director Spike Lee celebrated Michael Jackson’s birthday with a bang, by throwing his The 2nd Annual Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration in Prospect Park!

Fans from all over, packed Brooklyn’s Nethermead Field, Sunday, August 28th, to help pay homage to the greatest performer of all time! The mega celebration attracted thousands of Michael Jackson fans of all ages: MJ impersonators, major celebrities and politicians.

The Reverend Al Sharpton joined in on the celebration. He spoke of Michael Jackson in the highest regard, as well as, his family. He ended his appearance at the spectacular event by leading the crowd in prayer.

Thousands of dedicated MJ fans braved the excruciating heat that eventually sent one of MJ’s fans to the paramedic’s station set up behind the stage.

Last year, at the initial celebration of Michael in Prospect Park, Spike Lee announced he would be documenting footage of these events for a documentary he’s preparing on the late musical genius. Therefore, everyone in attendance in the park was aware and willing to be a part of Mr. Lee’s documentary.

One of the highlights of the day was all the Michael Jackson impersonators that showed up to show off their MJ moves! Their ages ranged from child to adult, yet all were in sync with one thing: the love they feel for Michael Jackson and his music.

Celebrities on hand to join in on the festivities were actors: Michael K. Williams, Jamie Hector, Chad L. Coleman and JD Williams of the popular ‘HBO Series’: ‘The Wire’ and ‘OZ’ .

Jamal Woolard, star of the successful bio epic: ‘Notorious,’  joined Spike Lee, DJ Marley Marl,

Michael K. Williams, Jamie Hector and several others onstage to lead the crowd in a karaoke like sing-along of Jackson’s mega hit: ‘Wanna Be Startin.’ Spike and his amiable crew handed out signs with verses from MJ’s song to assist the crowd in singing along in unison.

There were MJ impersonator contests, free refreshments were supplied by sponsors: PepsiMax, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream; which came in handy considering the blistering heat out at the park that joyous day. There were vendors in the park selling everything from buttons to T-shirts with Michael Jackson’s face on it. There was one woman there who was offered $16 for a cardboard MJ hand fan containing MJ’s face, that Spike’s crew handed out free earlier that day. This proves that even in demise Michael Jackson’s influence still prevails.

Woodhull Hospital set up a temporary health van offering: free HIV, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and cholesterol testing. The birthday celebration also offered free face painting for the kids and several other give-a-ways.

The biggest surprise of the day was when Award-winning Hip-Hop Superstar ‘Snoop Dogg’ and ‘Warren G ’gave surprise performances at the celebration in honor of the King of Pop! Snoop performed his hits ‘Gin & Juice‘ and ‘Drop it like its Hot’ over MJ’s music. ‘Warren G’ performed his classic Hip Hop hit ‘Regulators.’

Despite the overbearing heat and the continued grief the fans still feel for the loss of Michael Jackson, once again Spike Lee has captured Brooklyn with another one of his lasting Spike Lee Joints!
